How these leagues and societies differ from digital delivery is in how often we meet. I was a member of the Catholic Women’s League, which organizes by chapter. Every parish has a chapter, and there isn’t much intermingling between individual members. I have been a member of TESOL Inc. as well as IATEFL, which have both chapters (regional) but Special Interest Groups (SIGs) (topic-based). So an ESL teacher in Toronto who is interested in teaching and testing reading, for example, can join an international SIG to deep dive in that interest.
